De-Wei Li, Ph. D.

Dr. Li obtained his Ph.D. in Mycology in 1994 from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. He did his graduate research under the supervision of Dr. Bryce Kendrick - a world authority in mycology and author of The Fifth Kingdom. Dr. Li’s research focused on both indoor and outdoor aeromycology, with the use of spore trapping devices. He pioneered the systematic research in aeromycology, and his studies have been widely cited and recognized. Dr. Li was a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Environmental Biology at the University of Guelph in Ontario. Here, his research was on the biocontrol of Botrytis cinerea on ornamental plants.

After completing his postdoctoral research, Dr. Li went on to teach Plant Pathology, Microbiology and Entomology at Olds College in Alberta. He then began working for P&K Microbiology Services as a Senior Mycologist and Technical Director. After 3 years, he left to pursue an opportunity at the Valley Laboratory, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, in Windsor, CT. In June of 2004, Dr. Li began work at the Valley Laboratory as a research scientist, where he continues to work today. Currently Dr. Li has decided, with great pride and confidence, on a joint venture with Mycometrics, LLC. He is now acting as President and Technical Advisor of the laboratory.

Dr. Li has made many contributions to the mold industry. He has written various papers in peer-reviewed journals, collaborated on several books, and attended numerous mold seminars. In 2004, Dr. Li was invited to make a presentation entitled “Identification of Hidden Fungi Within Wall and Ceiling Cavities” and taught a PD course "Introductory Mycology with Dr. Bryce Kendrick and Geoff Clark at AIHce 2004 in Atlanta. His expertise has been sought since the mid 90’s by legal professionals, as both an expert witness and a consultant. Dr. Li is a member of the Mycological Society of America, the British Mycological Association, the International Aerobiology Association and the Analytic Accreditation Board of American Industry Hygiene Association (AIHA).
