ERMI & HERTSMI TEST

ERMI TEST

ERMI is Environmental Relative Moldiness index and it was developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development (ORD). ERMI uses the analysis of settled dust in homes and buildings to determine the molds' situation. The methodology is based on using a mold-specific quantitative polymerase chain reaction (MSQPCR) to quantify 36 molds and calculate an index number for comparison with a database of reference homes.

HERTSMI TEST

HERTSMI is a mold test that analyses the dust sample provided for 5 molds. These molds are known as the "Big 5": Aspergilus Penicilloides, Aspergillus Versicolor, Chaetomium Globosum, Stachybotrys Chartarum, Wallemia Sebi.

    FAQ

Question 1: What kind of test does Mycometrics offer?

We offer two tests: the HERTSMI and the ERMI. The HERTSMI test screens only for 5 mold species that are related to water damage. The ERMI test screens for 36 mold species including the 5 from the HERTSMI. So ERMI is more comprehensive.

Question 2: What is the price for each test?

The price for the ERMI is $285, and HERTSMI is $150. If you order the kits from us, you have to pay an initial $50 non-refundable deposit plus shipping and handling fee. The kit itself is free. Once we receive your sample, we'll charge you the remaining balance, $240 for ERMI or $105 for HERTSMI.

Question 3: What is the turnaround time?

The standard turn-around-time is 5-7 business days upon receipt of the sample. We will send you a PDF file of your results via email. The testing process can be speed up with expedited services at a surcharge of the total testing price.

    Question 4: Expedited Service

    Expedited ERMI Test:
Same Day (1BD): additional $285 per test
Two Business Day (24hrs): additional $142.50 per test
Three Business Day (48hrs): additional $71.25 per test

    Expedited HERTSMI Test:
Same Day (1BD): additional $150 per test
Two Business Day (24hrs): additional $75.00 per test
Three Business Day (48hrs): additional $37.50 per test

We would need to receive the expedited sample by 10:30 am EST. Usually, the sample would be delivered with FedEx Priority Overnight.

Question 5: What is the difference between AccuDust Kit and AccuCloth Kit?

    AccuDust Kit:
The dust kit comes with a canister that is attached onto the hose of the vacuum. The canister will collect dust from the carpet when vacuuming.

    AccuCloth Kit:
The cloth kit comes with a small size of Swiffer cloth that is used to wipe the above-floor surfaces such as furniture, appliances, vents, etc.

We recommend you to order the AccuDust kit if the locations you are trying to test are the majority wall-to-wall carpet. But if you have pets, majority wood floor or if there is outdoor contamination on the carpet (ie. wearing shoes indoors), you should order the AccuCloth kit. Once you have collected enough dust for your sample, you can ship it back to us and we will begin testing.

    Question 6: Using own kit

By submitting your own kit, you save the shipping and handling fee. The price for the ERMI is $285, and HERTSMI is $150.

You may purchase your own cloth kit at any local drugstores or supermarket.

Please purchase a box of the Dry and Unscented Swiffer Sweeper, a pair of rubber gloves and a box of Ziploc bag. The moment you open the box of Swiffer sweeper, bag each cloth into an individual Ziploc bag so you can minimize contamination and use those for future sample collection. Please only use one cloth per test, otherwise, there will be an additional charge for each additional cloth. Warning: Since we are not supplying the cloth, the risk is on your end if you use a contaminated cloth for sample collection.

Please send the filled-out COC form and signed Payment form along with your sampled Swiffer cloth (sealed in a Ziploc bag) back to us at:
    Mycometrics
9 Deer Park Dr, Suite K-18
    Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852

    Question 7: No enough dust?

You can obtain several new dark color cover sheets or black garbage bag on different above-floor surfaces in different areas. Allow the recent dust particles to settle onto the sheets/bags for a minimum of 1 to 3 months or until you see visible dust has been accumulated. Then you can wipe it off with your cloth kit. The dust should be visible on the cloth. Please only use the rough side of the AccuCloth, and collect enough dust on each cloth such that at least 50% of the cloth is darkened with dust.

Question 8: How to order the test?

    Check here for ordering: https://www.mycometrics.com/online.html

    Question 9: Consultation Service

We provide thirty-minutes free consultation for the ERMI test. Once you get your result, you can schedule the consultation in here: https://www.mycometrics.com/consult.jsp

Please understand that since only 5 species are detected in the HERTSMI analysis as compared to ERMI, which detects for 36 fungal species, we will be unable to answer any questions in regard to the report. Please go to your physician / health practitioner or press here to get the calculation of the HERTSMI-2 score.

    Question 10: Streptomyces Testing

Streptomyces is a large genus of spore-forming Gram-positive bacteria that belongs to the Actinobacteria class. Please consult with your physician or health care provider about the addition of this test with your ERMI or HERTSMI test. Should you interested in this test, please write down the analysis code PCR 10.A on the Chain-of-Custody (COC) form and the payment form, and submit with your samples(s) to Mycometrics.

This test service can be only initiated together with a HERTSMI or an ERMI test ordered at Mycometrics.
Submitting with the HERTSMI test: additional $30 per test.
Submitting with the ERMI test: additional $15 per test.

    Question 11: Return Policy

The initial $50 deposit is non-refundable as it clearly states on our website as well as the Chain of Custody form. You can either keep the kit for future use or give it to someone else who might need it.
